Everyone is welcome to join the Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA) at the C.P. Shah Alumni Award of Excellence Presentation and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 22nd.

The PHAA is thrilled to present this year's Shah Award to Mary-Anne Pietrusiak, a DLSPH graduate who has significantly advanced population health in Canada. Mary-Anne will present on the impact of her U of T education and various work experiences on her career that have laid the foundation for her life in the enriching world of public health. Her talk is titled "Pulling it all Together". More details below.

The Public Health Alumni Association will hold their Annual General Meeting from 5:30pm-6:00pm.

This evening event will be an opportunity to connect with DLSPH alumni and learn about the exciting initiatives and events that the PHAA Board leads throughout the year.

  • 7:00 p.m. Wrap and move to Wickson Social pub for New Alumni welcome event

Cost: Free. Refreshments and appetizers will be provided.

About C.P. Shah Alumni Award of Excellence 2017 Recipient, Mary-Anne Pietrusiak

Mary-Anne Pietrusiak is currently an epidemiologist at the Durham Region Health Department. She graduated with a MHSc in Community Health and Epidemiology from U of T in 1998. Her undergraduate degree was in Biology and Psychology from McMaster University. Her first “epi” job was with Public Health Branch at the Ministry of Health where she worked on environmental health. She then changed branches within the Ministry to join the team working on the 1990 Ontario Health Survey. Since joining Durham Region in 1994, Mary-Anne has worked on a wide range of projects, the two largest being “Radiation and Health” in response to two nuclear generating stations in the Region and more recently, Health Neighbourhoods. She has also done extensive work with the Association of Public Health Epidemiologists in Ontario (APHEO) to define and standardize core public health indicators. She chaired the core indicators working group for 11 years.
